ABSTRACT
Objective: To investigate whether inpatients with disorganized schizophrenia are more resistant to treatment. Method: Eighty-five inpatients were assessed at admission and at discharge for schizophrenia subtype, symptom severity, and treatment resistance criteria. Results: Disorganized patients were significantly more treatment-resistant than paranoid patients (60%, p = 0.001), and presented worse scores on the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), the Clinical Global Impression Scale (CGI-S), and the Global Assessment of Functioning Scale (GAF) (p < 0.001). Although the difference was not significant, 80% of treatment-resistant patients with disorganized schizophrenia responded to clozapine. Conclusion: Patients with the disorganized subtype of schizophrenia should benefit from clozapine as a second-line agent. .

En el presente ensayo se evaluó en forma abierta la acción antipsicótica y los efectos secundarios de Bromperidol en 33 pacientes esquizofrénicos. Bromperidol fue administrado por vía oral en dosis iniciales de 2.5 a 10 mg/día. Los resultados obtenidos de acuerdo con los parámetros de EBEP y una escala de evaluación clínica global, luego de 2 semanas, 1 mes, 2 y 3 meses de tratamiento, evidenciaron una significativa mejoría en la mayoría de los síntomas psiquiátricos evaluados. Bromperidol posee un potente efecto antipsicótico y ciertas propiedades estimulantes sobre la actividad, que resultan sumamente beneficiosas al favorecer la motivación y resocialización de los pacientes. Su tolerancia general fue muy buena. Nueve pacientes (27%), presentaron efectos extrapiramidales leves que fueron fácilmente controlados con medicación anticolinérgica
